Job Profile - BPM, ABPM & Dak Sevak

1. Branch Postmaster (BPM)

  • Overall in-charge of day-to-day operations of the Branch Post Office (BO) and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) services.
  • Marketing and promotion of Department products/services, operating Customer Service Centres (CSC).
  • In single-handed BOs, responsible for mail conveyance and delivery as well.
  • Must arrange accommodation for running the Branch Post Office at their own cost, and reside in the post village.

2. Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)

  • Sale of stamps/stationery, conveyance and doorstep delivery of mail, IPPB transactions.
  • Assists the BPM in postal operations and marketing activities.
  • Must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned BO.

3. Dak Sevak

  • Engaged in Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Offices, Transit Mail Offices, or Delivery Centres.
  • Duties include sale of stamps, IPPB transactions, mail handling, bag transhipment, and delivery, depending on posting.
  • Must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Post Office.

India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 Salary (TRCA)

GDS employees are paid Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) rather than a regular pay scale, with a 3% annual increment (subject to conditions) plus applicable Dearness Allowance.

  • Branch Postmaster (BPM): Rs. 12,000 - Rs. 29,380 (TRCA)
  • ABPM/Dak Sevak: Rs. 10,000 - Rs. 24,470 (TRCA)

Eligibility Criteria

Selection Process

The India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 selection process is fully merit-based — there is no written examination or interview:

  • A system-generated merit list is prepared using the percentage of marks scored in the Class 10 (SSE) examination, calculated to 4 decimal points.
  • Where marksheets show grades/points instead of marks, conversion is done using a standard multiplication factor of 9.5.
  • Ties in merit are resolved using a prescribed priority order based on date of birth (older preferred) and category/gender combinations.
  • Shortlisted candidates are notified via SMS and email, and must report for physical document verification within 15 days of shortlisting.
  • On successful verification, an Offer of Provisional Engagement is issued, followed by pre-engagement formalities (including 3 days of basic training) to be completed within 30 days.

Important Instructions for Candidates
