Job Profile - BPM, ABPM & Dak Sevak

1. Branch Postmaster (BPM)

• Overall in-charge of day-to-day operations of the Branch Post Office (BO) and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) services.
• Marketing and promotion of Department products/services, operating Customer Service Centres (CSC).
• In single-handed BOs, responsible for mail conveyance and delivery as well.
• Must arrange accommodation for running the Branch Post Office at their own cost, and reside in the post village.

2. Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)

• Sale of stamps/stationery, conveyance and doorstep delivery of mail, IPPB transactions.
• Assists the BPM in postal operations and marketing activities.
• Must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned BO.

3. Dak Sevak

• Engaged in Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Offices, Transit Mail Offices, or Delivery Centres.
• Duties include sale of stamps, IPPB transactions, mail handling, bag transhipment, and delivery, depending on posting.
• Must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Post Office.

India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 Salary (TRCA)

GDS employees are paid Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) rather than a regular pay scale, with a 3% annual increment (subject to conditions) plus applicable Dearness Allowance.

• Branch Postmaster (BPM): Rs. 12,000 - Rs. 29,380 (TRCA)
• ABPM/Dak Sevak: Rs. 10,000 - Rs. 24,470 (TRCA)

GDS staff are also entitled to GDS Gratuity and the Service Discharge Benefit Scheme (similar to the National Pension System for regular employees).

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit (as on the last date of application submission):

Educational Qualification:

• Pass in Secondary School Examination (SSE)/Class 10 from a recognised board, with passing marks in Mathematics and English.

2. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) using a valid, active mobile number and email ID (both verified via OTP).
3. Note down the system-generated Registration Number and password sent via SMS.

Selection Process

The India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 selection process is fully merit-based — there is no written examination or interview:

• A system-generated merit list is prepared using the percentage of marks scored in the Class 10 (SSE) examination, calculated to 4 decimal points.
• Where marksheets show grades/points instead of marks, conversion is done using a standard multiplication factor of 9.5.
• Ties in merit are resolved using a prescribed priority order based on date of birth (older preferred) and category/gender combinations.
• Shortlisted candidates are notified via SMS and email, and must report for physical document verification within 15 days of shortlisting.
• On successful verification, an Offer of Provisional Engagement is issued, followed by pre-engagement formalities (including 3 days of basic training) to be completed within 30 days.

Important Instructions for Candidates

• Only one registration is allowed per candidate; duplicate/multiple applications will lead to cancellation.
• Mobile number and email ID cannot be changed once registered.
