The Department of Posts has released the India Post GDS Notification 2026 for 28,000+ Vacancies across India for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS), Branch Postmaster (BPM), and Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) posts.

Service Conditions & Job Overview:
- Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) are not regular Central Government employees, and their pay and benefits are not equivalent to government staff.
- GDS service conditions are governed by the GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020, as amended from time to time.
- GDS are civil post holders outside the civil services and are mainly required to work in rural areas.
- Working hours range from 4 to 5 hours per day, and engagement is permitted up to 65 years of age.
- GDS must have an additional source of income for livelihood.
- BPM candidates must arrange accommodation at their own cost to run the Branch Post Office.

Post Office GDS Recruitment 2026 - Job Profile Details:
1. Branch Postmaster (BPM)
- Manage day-to-day postal operations of the Branch Post Office (BO) and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB).
- Promote and market postal products and services, including CSC services.
- Responsible for smooth functioning of the BO, including mail conveyance and delivery.
- Supervise ABPMs where applicable and perform combined duties if required.
- Any other duties assigned by postal authorities.
- Residence Requirement: Must provide accommodation for the Branch Post Office and reside in the post village.
2. Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
- Sale of stamps and stationery, mail conveyance, doorstep delivery, and IPPB transactions.
- Assist BPM in postal operations and CSC services.
- Promote postal products and services.
- Perform BPM duties in the absence of BPM when required.
- Any other duties assigned by postal authorities.
- Residence Requirement: Must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the BO.
3. Dak Sevak
- Sale of stamps and stationery, mail delivery, and IPPB transactions.
- Assist in sorting offices, RMS, and mail offices.
- Handle receipt and dispatch of mailbags.
- Support Postmasters in daily office operations and marketing activities.
- Residence Requirement: Must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned post office.
GDS Recruitment 2026 Educational Qualification:
- Must have passed Class 10 from a recognised board.
- Mathematics and English should be compulsory/elective subjects.
- Must have studied the local language up to Class 10 and be able to read, write, and speak it.
- Basic computer knowledge is required.
- Ability to ride a bicycle is mandatory
- Candidates should have adequate means of livelihood.
India Post GDS Age Limit:
- Minimum Age: 18 years
- Maximum Age: 40 years
Note: Relaxation of Upper Age Limit is Applicable For Reserved Categories
State Preference & Local Language Requirement:
- Preference is given to candidates who completed Class 10 from the same postal circle/state.
- Studying the local language up to Class 10 is mandatory.
- Failure to prove language proficiency may lead to rejection during document verification.

- Branch Postmaster (BPM): ₹12,000 - ₹29,380
- ABPM/Dak Sevak: ₹10,000 - ₹24,470
